York Boulevard Road Concert

Sunday, April 26, 2026, 12-5 p.m.

40+ site-specific artworks, performances, interventions, participatory projects, music, and happenings along the entire four miles of York Boulevard in Highland Park and adjacent communities!

During this one-day, free event, artists and performers from in and around the neighborhood will create original artworks and performances inspired by York Boulevard and sites along it. The event is co-organized by Stephen van Dyck and six students at Occidental College: Qingxi Yang, Simone Origel, Peter Krebs, Liv Peterson, Nicole Anderson, and Avery Ferrier.

The Road Concerts invites artists and audiences to consider what it means to meaningfully engage with York Boulevard, in the context of issues affecting the community, like gentrification and the threat of ICE. How do we think about progress and change in a neighborhood grounded in history while undergoing the struggles of gentrification and displacement?

By activating parklets, storefronts, and suburban curbs, York Boulevard will serve as a stage for connection and dialogue, reimagining how we experience and find meaning in public spaces.

Audience members will be invited to go the length of York Boulevard to take a break from their everyday lives—work, leisure activities, and all their other usual types of movement—and let themselves be drawn into surprising art encounters along the street.

Through an open call process, the Road Concerts brings together locals, artists, and performers, to realize a broad array of kinds of interactions with the sites.
